The verdict is out. Aamir Khan's much-talked about show Satyamev Jayate has clocked an opening TVR (Television Rating) of 3 on Star Plus, which is fair, but certainly not overwhelming. So, it's time again to review who is the superstar of the small screen, now that most biggies of Bollywood have made their foray in tellyland as hosts.
Let's start with the baap of them all. Amitabh Bachchan indeed changed the face of television with Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000 and also changed the fortunes of Star Plus. When Shah Rukh Khan took over from Bachchan in the third season of the channel's flagship show he too managed to generate good ratings. But he failed to recreate that magic in his third innings as the host of Zor Ka Jhatka Total Wipe Out on Imagine TV. His frenemy, Salman Khan with his TV debut with Dus Ka Dum had viewers glued to the idiot box. But Big B's return to KBC in the fourth season on Sony Entertainment Television, proved beyond doubt that he was the badshaah of the small screen.
Aamir's debut TV show - which was awaited with bated breath - clocked an opening TVR of 3, which lags behind the many debut TVRs of shows hosted by his Bollywood counterparts. The expectations from SJ were huge because of the secrecy surrounding it. No one knew what his show was about till the first episode aired. The immense curiosity coupled with catchy promos and a month-long publicity blitz had created a lot of hype. Khan's fans and critics alike switched on their TV sets at 11 am on May 6 but the TVR was not record-breaking. Perhaps because the subject is serious, or it's the weekend morning slot that is to blame? One can analyse and debate that but for now it is the numbers that everyone is focusing on. Here's a quick look at other actors' report cards on TV. For more details Reach out here Source : timesofindia

New Delhi: The second episode of 'Satyamev Jayate' has made Harish Iyer a familiar name for Indians. The show was based on some striking facts about the issue of child sexual abuse. Harish Iyer was invited to the show where he bravely shared the trauma of being abused at the age of seven years.
However, Harish is not just a survivor; he also works as gay rights activist, animal rights activist, and environmentalist. The invitation to Aamir Khan's show got him a surprise gift too. Iyer met his favourite Bollywood actress Sridevi on the show. Prior to this, he confessed on the show that it was his pet dog and Bollywood that helped him in fighting his sufferings.
His life story and courage had inspired the National Award winner filmmaker Onir to include his story in 'I Am',"The story 'I Am Abhimanyu' is partly based on Harish Iyer and partly on Ganesh Nallari. Both the stories were inspirational and full of emotions."
"In a country where normally nobody talks about child sexual abuse, there somebody is talking about such things; to me it's more important. In spite of looking at the negative side of any side we should focus more on the positive side. I interact with both of them it always horrifies me how such kind of experience affect a grown up person. Whenever I see Harish on television I see a child who was traumatised, who deserved a better childhood. Today they are working towards making people aware; they are opening up a whole new avenue," adds Onir.
Harish Iyer may look a shy person with dimpled cheeks but his courage is commendable. Harish talks about the show,"Satyamev Jayate was a fantastic experience. In fact, my journey, if you really ask me then one of the best shows that I have worked for is 'Zindagi Live'. I opened up there, then I appeared on other shows also. The focus of 'Satyamev Jayate' was on child sexual abuse, so I went there."
'Amen' is the other film based on Iyer's experiences. He also has a biography, but Iyer speaks for change,"I do speak about a lot of causes, homosexuality is one of them. I am gay and a survivor of child sexual abuse. I am associated with this NGO Animal Angel where I work for animal rights. I have walked the gay parade many times. I also speak for child sexual abuse because I firmly believe there is this misconception that child sexual abuse and homosexuality are related. I am not gay because I was abused."
He replies with another question when you ask him about his sexual realization,"How do people realise that they are straight? Nothing happens to them, they just realise, it's a natural process. I couldn't perform with someone of the opposite sex and that's it."
He might look cool, calm and composed on 'Satyamev Jayate', but the pain he has undergone could only be imagined.

Aamir Khan working for money, not issue, says Rajasthan's Minister
Rajkumar Sharma, Rajasthan's Minister for Health, has criticised Aamir Khan's TV show Satyamev Jayate.
The minister has accused the actor of "sensationalising female foeticide cases" in the state. While one cannot deny that the government has swung into action after the first episode of SMJ, Sharma says, "There was an impression that the government took action only after Aamir's campaign, but I would like to highlight that we've already been working for the same. Budget announcements to check foeticide are there and several other steps are being taken. The government took up the issue much before Aamir Khan's programme."
He further says that Satyamev Jayate is not a campaign for social awareness. "Aamir himself has said that he is an entertainer and cannot work longer on one topic, that simply means what he is doing is for monetary gains. If he really wants to work on this issue, then I welcome him to come and work here on ground."

Tere ishq ka ye junoon hai
Rag rag mein ishq tera daudta
Yeh bawra sa khoon hai
Tune hi sikhaya sachai oo ka matlab
Tere paas aake jaana maine zindagi ka maksad
Satyamev, satyamev, satyamev jayate
Sacha hai pyaar tera, satyamev jayate
Tere noor ke dastoor mein
Na ho salwatein na shikan rahe
Meri koshishein toh hai bas yaheen
Rahein khushbooein gulshan rahe
Teri zulf suljhaney chala
Terey aur paas aaney chala
Jahan koi sur na ho besura
Woh geet main ganey chala
Tere rang aisa chadh gaya
Tha nasha jo aur bhi badh gaya
Teri barishon ka karam hai ye
Main nikhar Gaya main sanwar gaya
Jaisa bhi hoon apna mujhey
Mujhey ye nahin hain bolna
Kabil tere main ban sakoo
Mujhey dwaar aisa kholna
Sanson ki iss raftaar ko
Dhadkan ke iss tyohaar ko
Har jeet ko har haar ko
Khud apney iss sansaar ko
Badloonga main tere liye
Mujhey khud ko bhi hai tatolna
Kahin hai kami to hai bolna
Khahin dag hain toh chupayein kyon
Hum sach se nazrein hatayein kyon
khud ko badalna hai agar
Badloonga main tere liye
Sholon pe chalna hai agar
Chal doonga main tere liye
Mere khoon kee har boond main
Sankalp ho tere pyaar ka
Kato mujhey to too bahe
Ho surkh rang har dharrrr ka

Haule Haule…
Aaine ka dhundhla chehra khil raha hai dheere dheere

Satyamev Jayate - Child Sexual Abuse
New Delhi: The second episode of Aamir Khan's much talked about television show Satyamev Jayate deals with the issue of child abuse. Given the huge positive feedback generated by the pilot episode that tackled the contentious subject of female foeticide both in rural and urban India, the second episode is even more explosive in form and content.
According to the sources, Aamir has been working with a string of NGOs working with children abused sexually either at home or outside, often by people they trust. There were indications that Aamir intends to drop a bigger bomb on May 13 at 11 AM during his show on Star Plus.
The second episode has shown the cases of Cindrella Prakash and Harish Aiyer who have gone through bad experiences in their past.
Aamir has stirred up a hornet's nest as statistics have shown in the past that sexual abuse of children is rampant in Indian metros, with the abuser often known to the child.
A survey conducted in 2007 by the Women and Child Development Ministry and the NGO Prayas in association with Unicef and Save the Children across 13 states and with a sample size of 12,447, found that 53.22% of children reported having faced one or more forms of sexual abuse. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and Delhi had reported the highest percentage of such incidents at that time.
In 50% of the cases, the abusers were known to the child or were in a position of trust and responsibility and most children did not report the matter to anyone. The aim of the study was to develop a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of child abuse, with a view to facilitate the formulation of appropriate policies and programmes meant to effectively curb and control the problem of child abuse in India.
The National Study on Child Abuse is one of the largest empirical in-country studies of its kind in the world. This study also complements the UN Secretary General's Global Study on Violence against Children 2006.
In the first episode, Aamir talked about the killing of unborn girls, an alarming reality not just in the far-flung cow belts but also in urban Indian households. Aamir said it involves the collusion of families, doctors and a social structure that encourages the desire for a boy child - at any cost. The result has been the death of over 3 crore unborn girls since independence and a generation of young men, many amongst whom will find it very tough to get a life partner.
He also set up an SMS poll: "Do you want the Rajasthan government to set up a fast-track court to process the cases arising out of the sting operation on doctors performing female foeticide, carried out by Meena Sharma and Sripal Shaktawat? SMS Y for Yes or N for No, and send to 5782711."
The feedback has been overwhelming. Three days after the show was aired, the Madhya Pradesh Health Department suspended the licences of 65 Medical Termination of Pregnancy centres for not submitting their reports on the prescribed form. Meanwhile, Aamir met Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to appeal to him to take action in old cases of female foeticide in his state.

Break The Silence - As many as 53 per cent, or one in every two children, are victims of child sexual abuse, which often happens at the hands of a trusted person, within the home.
